Yogyakarta, November 6, 2025 —
The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga
Yogyakarta successfully held the first day of The 6th International Student
Conference (ISC) with the theme “Revisiting Rationality and Religiosity in the
Disruption Era”. The event was held in a hybrid format at the Grand Rohan Hotel
Yogyakarta and via Zoom Meeting, presenting speakers and participants from 9
countries.
The event started at 08:00 AM WIB
with the opening session led by Putri Faizah as the Master of Ceremony,
followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem and the UIN Sunan
Kalijaga hymn. The proceedings began with welcoming remarks from the Dean of
the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought, Prof. Dr. H. Robby Habiba Abror,
S.Ag., M.Hum. This was followed by the first Welcoming Speech by the Rector of
UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan S.Ag., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., and then
the second Welcoming Speech by H.E. Dr. Mohammad Boroujerdi, the Iranian
Ambassador to Indonesia.
The Opening Ceremony of The 6th
International Student Conference was marked by the striking of a gong by the
UIN Sunan Kalijaga Rector along with the Iranian Ambassador and the Dean of the
Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought. The opening was further enhanced by
a performance of the Legong Bali dance. The opening session was closed by the
MC, followed by a joint photo session for all invited guests, the committee,
and participants.
The event then moved to the core
conference session, which was a panel session by the speakers guided by
Khairullah Zikri, MA., St.Rel. as the moderator.
Three main speakers appeared in
the plenary session:
- Dr. Min Seong Kim from South Korea, as a Cultural
Studies Lecturer, who discussed “The Apocalypse has (so far) been
Disappointing: Cultural Studies at the End of the World”.
- Prof. Evangelos Angelo Afendras, Ph.D, Ambassador,
Communication Institute of Greece, who discussed “Rationality and
Religiosity in the Disruption Era: A Personal Journey”.
- Dr. Djarfour Ibrahim from Algeria, as a Student of
Islamic Studies, who discussed تحديات ومظاهر عصر الاضطراب (الفوضى) (Challenges and Manifestations of
the Era of Disruption (Chaos)).
The discussion session was
dynamic with various questions from participants, demonstrating high enthusiasm
for the topics raised.
The first day's activities were concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the speakers, followed by a luncheon with all participants and the committee.
